Lupus Dei (lateinisch: Der Wolf Gottes) ist das zweite Studioalbum der deutschen Power-Metal-Band Powerwolf. Es erschien am 7. Mai 2007 bei Metal Blade Records.
Entstehung
Das Album wurde im Januar 2007 in Deutschland aufgenommen. Es wurde von Fredrik Nordström im Studio Fredman in Göteborg in Schweden abgemischt. Ein 30-köpfiger klassischer Chor wurde beim Titelstück und beim Song In Blood We Trust eingesetzt. Das Album wurde zum Teil in einer im 12. Jahrhundert erbauten Kapelle aufgenommen.[1] Die Band bezeichnete das Album auch als Konzeptalbum mit dem Wolf als Protagonisten. Parabeln aus der Bibel wurden von der Band in den Kontext ihrer Leidenschaft für Metal gesetzt.[2]
Rezeption
Im Metal Hammer vergab Matthias Mineur vier von sieben Punkten. Er schrieb, auf dem Album finde man "neben Schminke und Kreuz eine traditionell komponierende Band, die es allerdings schafft, selbst durchschnittliche Ideen mit gehörigem Brimborium geschickt aufzublasen. Ähnlich wie die finnischen Schminke-Rocker Lordi verpacken auch Powerwolf ihre konventionellen Rock-Botschaften in große Gesten und monumental wirkende Aussagen."[3]
