Vancouver ([væŋˈkuːvɚ] oder [vænˈkuːvɚ]) ist eine Stadt im Südwesten der Provinz British Columbia an der Westküste Kanadas. Sie gehört zum Regionaldistrikt Metro Vancouver und liegt zwischen der Straße von Georgia und den Coast Mountains. Benannt ist die Stadt nach dem britischen Seefahrer George Vancouver (1757–1798), der die Region Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts erforschte und vermaß. Gegründet wurde Vancouver am 6. April 1886.[1] Der Name Vancouver selbst stammt vom niederländischen „van Coevorden“, abgeleitet von der niederländischen Stadt Coevorden.[2] Im Februar 2010 wurden die XXI. Olympischen Winterspiele in Vancouver und Whistler durchgeführt.
